Although Quinn is 8 years of age, she is medically aged around 2 years owing to Syngap1 genetic condition which means she has drug-resistant epilepsy, low muscle tone, a learning disability, is non-verbal and has sleep and behavioral disturbances. The older she becomes the more her struggles are apparent, and her family reached out to Donations with a Difference to ask for our support to transform her bedroom into the perfect sensory space to ensure it was safe, engaging and would wholly meet her growing needs, and which included specialist sensory bedding and toys too. The financial contribution made has allowed Quinn’s family to better engage her in play at home, ultimately regulating her emotions and providing calm when she is suffering with seizures or fatigue, improving her sleep and overall wellbeing.
With limited assistance from the NHS and any other charity that the family approached on countless occasions it was a privilege to step-in and make a difference and with further grant funding providing Quinn with a specialist purpose-designed trike, we have been able to aid her physical wellbeing too.
This year her Father Dave will take on the challenge of a lifetime running back-to-back Marathons to raise funds for our charity, ultimately ensuring others like Quinn will benefit from the support this will allow us to provide in the future.
