We were delighted to recently present Sheppey Matters with a cheque for £1,125. Sheppey Matters is one of Swale's leading regeneration charities co-ordinating a wide range of community activities at their base in the Healthy Living Centre and around the Isle of Sheppey.
Nigel Martin, Sheppey Matters Chief Executive contacted DWAD for help to fund their disabled young persons club.
Nigel Martin said “The disabled young person's club meet once a week in three sessions; firstly for younger children with ADHD in connection with a parental support group. This is followed by a junior club and then a senior session; this has proven extremely popular over the last eighteen months with 25/30 young people aged 12-25 taking part. The sessions offer sport, arts and crafts, drama, dance, radio broadcasting, DJ workshops, games and 1-2-1 discussions plus workshops about issues affecting young people (sexual health, transport, training, employment and so on).”
Wayne Hodgson, DWAD Chairman said “We are delighted to be able to assist with funding this vital project for Sheppey Matters. The £1125 will pay for the weekly sports hall hire for an entire year and add value to the already successful weekly club. I was extremely impressed with the facilities on offer and the activities they run for the wider community.”
Wayne was shown around the full facility at the Healthy Living Centre and the currently internet based Sheppey Radio FM building where he was promptly interviewed live. A repeat of the interview will be aired in December as Sheppey FM go live with their FM licence later this year.
