Introduced to Donations with a Difference by a friend who knew of the services our charity could provide, Emily Ward initially applied for a sole grant for her young daughter Ivy, who was born with a rare chromosomal abnormality that impairs her movement and communication.
Initially applying for a new Trike to give Ivy improved quality of life through the opportunity to have fun safely whilst being fully supported, the grant was unanimously agreed and it is a pleasure to see the joy this now brings to the entire family. As a charity that truly aims to make a difference the Trustees subsequently agreed to provide further equipment that would ease life on a day-to-day basis through provision of high-low feeding equipment that could be kept at Ivy’s grandparent to make visits possible without transporting the cumbersome but essential equipment each time.
Last, but by no means least was approval of a third grant in the form of Ivy’s all terrain buggy, affectionately known by her parents as ‘The Dragster’ and that allows the family greater freedom to take Ivy off-road to places such as the beach which was wholly inaccessible before in her standardised wheelchair. Ivy’s mum Emily said “We know she loves it, she literally shakes with excitement when she goes in it. This has given her so much freedom and we are so grateful”
It was truly a pleasure to meet Ivy who is such a content and beautiful little girl, just turning 4 and to see the impact that the money we raise as a charity can have on the lives of others.
On learning of approval of the third grant, which was encouraged by the Trustees, Emily’s reaction is exactly why we do what we do at Donations with a Difference: “Oh my WORD!!! That’s absolutely incredible!!! I wasn’t expecting that! Thank you SO MUCH!! This opens up a whole new world for Ivy this year!!! Oh I’m absolutely over the moon I could cry. Thank you so much!!”
